Museums and culture

Rome is the city with the richest cultural and artistic heritage in the world: suffice to say that the Flavian Amphitheater (better known as the Colosseum) and the Vatican Museums were respectively ranked 1st and 3rd in the 2019 Tripadvisor ranking of the most visited attractions in the world.
Therefore, art and culture lovers will surely like to know that the appointment with the project named “Sundays at the Museum” returns to Rome starting from Sunday 5 January 2020: it’s an initiative of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities dating back to 2014, which provides the possibility on the first Sunday of each month to visit for free museums, monuments, galleries, parks and archaeological excavations managed by the State. Since its introduction, the project has so far counted more than 17 million visitors from all over the world: a success that will certainly induce both tourists and residents to take advantage of this opportunity.

Here are some of the most important State-owned museums and archeological sites that adhere to the initiative, in Rome and in the surrounding area:

It should be specified that the civic museums of the Musei in Comune circuit allow a free entrance only to the residents of Rome and of the Metropolitan City area, and among these sites we can mention the Capitoline Museums, Trajan’s Market, Palazzo Braschi, the Villa Torlonia Museums and the Gallery of Modern Art. We also remind you that the Vatican Museums, unlike other monuments and galleries, open their doors free of charge on the last Sunday of the month.

If you are a guest of Aurelia Residence, you can ask us for more information on tours and activities in the city, simply by writing or contacting us here

The Aurelia Residence San Pietro, thanks to its excellent location in the immediate vicinity of the Vatican City and Castel Sant’Angelo, represents an excellent solution for those who want to spend a few days discovering the artistic and cultural wealth of the Eternal City. Here are a few possible accommodations:
